The Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated a series of raids across various locations in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, resulting in the discovery of ₹25 crore unaccounted cash.
The raids, carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), targeted around half a dozen locations associated with Virendra Ram, the former chief engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department, and his close associates.
Video footage from the raid reveals a vast sum of currency notes strewn across a room, allegedly belonging to the domestic aide of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam, a Congress leader representing the Pakur seat in the Jharkhand assembly.
Pratul Shahdev, spokesperson for the Jharkhand BJP, expressed apprehension that the unearthed funds might be intended for election-related activities. Simultaneous raids are underway at nine locations, including Sail City in Ranchi, where teams are attempting to locate Vikas Kumar, an engineer from the Road Construction Department. Other areas being scrutinized include Bariatu, Morhabadi, and Bodia.
